Glen Sather has no Peca.

Well, first off let me say that general manager of the New York Rangers obviously reads this blog and specifically my posts. Sepcifically this one, that he specifically took to heart when he specifically decided to pass on Michael Peca which I, specifically, approve of. Yeah, that's right, I got pull! After weeks of talks and physicals and all other kinds of NHL legalese the Rangers chose not to sign the aging veteran UFA center.

.......

I couldn't be more indifferent, honestly. Why, you ask? Well, because I would have rather had Matt Cullen in the line up (who was traded). Although now prospects Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov will battle for the 3rd line center position in camp and pre-season play. I'd rather they ro-sham-bo for it, but unfortunately thats not how things work. Honestly I'm just glad Peca is not headed to Broadway. Instead the 33 year old signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets, he'll finish out his career in obscurity and with a sub .500 team. I understand his course of action as the Jackets gave him more then he probably would have gotten anywhere else. "Money it's a gas!".

.....

Now I know some of you are asking, "why the pic of Tom Renney?". Well, frankly because I could not find one picture of Glen Sather displaying any kind of emotion. Give Glen a break people, after all the man is a robot that was assembled in a plant somewhere in MooseJaw, Saskatchewan. What kind of technology do you expect from a group of people who's main technological concern is finding a quicker way to sharpen Ice skates.

Please, no. I don't want to be a Peca head.

If you're a hockey fan, which I know none of you are, then you've heard over the past several weeks that the New York Rangers have been in serious talks with current Leafs UFA center, Michael Peca. This is a direct result of the trading of center Matt Cullen. I liked Cullen, I did, but at 2.8 million per year as a 3rd line center, he was fairly overpaid. If they really wanted to though, Glen Sather and company could have held onto him. I mean, c'mon this team lines their damn hallways in gold.

......

This, to me, is an obvious step backwards for a progressing Rangers club. Instead of hanging on to a 40 pt a year 3rd line center or having one of the highly touted prospects biting at the bit get a shot, they go out and try to sign an aging, injury prone veteran who just isn't what he used to be. They're putting themselves in a bad position, because Peca will play no more than 50 games and will eat up at least 1.5 million a year. On a team that is going to have obvious cap issues with the signings they made this past summer, this will hurt more than help.

.......

Seriously, this is like having 2 thoroughbred horses in your stable and instead of riding them you go for the 15 year old donkey who has equestrian parkinsons. It's a stupid move in my opinion and is the essence of the Rangers and creates the suffering needed to be a fan. Shoot me.
