French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner, made a landmark speech yesterday in which he presented the firmest opposition to Iran's uranium-enrichment program. In the speech, Kouchner directly addressed the Iranian government, warning that if they should attain nuclear weaponry they would not be met with offers of negotiation with the French government, instead that they should expect any such achievement as a declaration of war against Europe which would be met accordingly. This marks a distinct change in policy within the European Union, which has tended to favor tremendous sanctions (which are still probable as well), as France seems to be stepping away from its neighbors by openly, and vaguely-militaristically opposing Iran.
